Yancey Chapel

Hale County, Alabama
Yancey Chapel 1

Built from tires recovered from a landfill and roof beams harvested from an old church, this meditative chapel is located on a secluded bluff in Hale County, Alabama. The project was completed on a shoestring budget by three thesis students in 1996. A few years later a model of the Yancey Chapel was sold to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York for twice as much as the chapel cost to build.
