Familiar to any student of Mockbee’s work, the Barton house displays the architect’s love for merging modernist design and placing it in a southern vernacular. Located on an estate populated by oaks draped with Spanish moss, the home is split in two directions, with a middle entryway. It stands out on the landscape with strikingly modern details: rigid cement walls, an angled metal roof and awning, a window wall of bric-a-brac design, a screened porch of open wood ceiling and planked floor.
